Hand painted kitchen in Marford Wrexham: This blog is about a hand painted kitchen we painted in Marford, Wrexham. The kitchen was in a solid condition, just a little tired and dated.

The client is one we’ve done lots of painting and decorating for already. Having seen a kitchen we had previously done, they decided it’s something they wanted to go ahead with themselves.
We gave them a quotation and they decided to go ahead. On this occasion the clients were away on holiday when we painted their kitchen. Having settled on colour, work was agreed to start in early February. Colortrend primer was selected and Mythic satin finish for the topcoats.

The handles and all accessories were to be kept. Off everything came. Doors and draws were removed. Everywhere was covered up. Worktops covered with lining paper, floors covered with antinox surface protection.
 .
Our first job was to degrease all the surfaces, this was done using Viro-sol, which was diluted accordingly. We repeated this process about 3 or 4 times. The final wash down was done with water alone, thus removing any Viro-sol. At this stage all filling was carried out. This was done using a two pack filler. Any caulking to be carried out is also done at this stage. We used Dunlop caulk on this occasion.
 .
The next task was to rub down all the surfaces. We used a Festool RTS sander with 180 Abranet abrasive attached. This was a linked up to a Festool CTL midi dust extractor.
 .
Everything was washed down again. Now on  went the primer, Colortrend Prime 1. This primer was chosen due to its grip and durability. It is also a stain blocker and stops any tanning and bleeding.
 .
The priming process is done twice. This ensures no tanning or bleeding will come through the top coat. This took us two days.

Before we applied the first of the Mythic coats, of which there were three. We re-sanded with 400 grit abranet abrasive.

On with the first coat of Mythic. One of us concentrated on the doors and draws and the other to all the fixed units. We used a selection of brushes. Hamilton 19mm sash brush. 1″ and a 2″ Corona Archer brushes were selected. These are all synthetic brushes, which all work very well with water based paints. We work carefully, ensuring coverage and a quality finish. Certain areas were taped off. This was done around all cornices and pelmets.

We repeated this process twice more, sanding lightly with 400 grit abrasive in-between each coat. Each coat took a day.

When fully complete and dried everything was put back. Doors and draws put back in in place. All handles put back on. We removed all tapes and coverings.
